I spent a summer traveling and peforming across the country with a group called the Sacramento Mandarins drum and bugle corps. I hold the experience close to my heart because it added a whole new dimension to what I value. While spending numerous hours practicing, I was taught much more than counts to the choreography I performed (although that is important). I learned how to push myself in order to be the best I could be for the other members of the Mandarins who were counting on me. I became more responsible, so I can count on myself in stressful situations. Most importantly, I realized that as long as I am privileged enough to listen to the counts my corps plays, I have no reason to be unhappy.
